I purchased the FSX:SE from Steam and want to update my local airport and write the XML code to add the correct approaches.

Some of the 3rd party addons will copy over to FSX:SE and some the developers had to write additional code so their installer could find and install into FSX:SE. Any addon you see being placed in FSX:SE was developed with the Microsoft Flight Simulator Deluxe or Gold box DVD Version that includes the SDK's. The ability to do this is not in FSX:SE because DTG stripped all the tools out of the SDK's and in some cases certain SDK folders are empty. As a developer we need the tools to develope missions, realistic sceneries, realistic airports/frequencies/routes/ATC, updated Approaches + realistic plane systems. The steam integration for the multi-player is already an interesting item.įSX:SE that Dovetail gave us is not a open platform.

It is not clear to me whether Dovetail will keep Flight Simulator as an open platform for which third party companies can develop and potentially sell add-ons (like PMDG, Carenado, Aerosoft etc.) or not. I think that what made the success of FSX (despite its weaknesses) was its very large ecosystem that could cover the need of many people (through freeware and payware). 'Enthusiasts/Experts': look for nice and realistic sceneries + realistic airports/frequencies/routes/ATC + realistic plane systems 'Travelers': primarily want nice a realistic and nice sceneries I beleive that FSX could until now meet 3 types of customers, the 2 last mainly thanks to third party add-on. The big question that I have now is about the evolution Dovetail plans for FSX in Steam. The steam integration for the multi-player is already an interesting item.
